True(ish) Week Two

“May all who are godly be happy….” (Psalm 97:12)

THE WAY THE WORLD THINGS ABOUT HAPPINESS:

1. If God wants me happy and I’m not then God FAILED.

2. The pursuit of happiness SEEMS right.

“There is a way that SEEMS RIGHT to a man, but in the end it LEADS TO DEATH.” (Proverbs 14:12)

WHAT GOD THINKS ABOUT HAPPINESS

1. It shouldn’t cause you to do something WRONG OR UNWISE.

~”But just as he who called you is HOLY, so be HOLY in all you do…” (1 Peter 1:15)

False: “Since I’m not happy, I’m allowed to do something that otherwise would be WRONG.”

2. It shouldn’t be ONLY based on things in this world.

The world’s formula for happiness:

Better possessions + peaceful circumstances + thrilling experiences + the right relationships + the perfect appearance = HAPPINESS.

“Do not LOVE THE WORLD or ANYTHING IN THE WORLD. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world- the CRAVINGS OF SINFUL MAN, the LUST OF HIS EYES and the BOASTING OF WHAT HE HAS and does- comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires PASS AWAY, but the man who does the will of God LIVES FOREVER.”  (1 John 2:15-17)

In Greek, the word “blessed” is defined as: Makarios (mak-ar’-ee-os) supremely blessed, MORE than happy.

Walk away point:

God doesn’t want you to be HAPPY, He wants you to be BLESSED.

“BLESSED is the man who FEARS THE LORD, who finds great delight in his commands.” (Psalm 112:1

“May all who are godly be happy IN THE LORD (most people love to stop this verse now, and ignore the rest which states:) AND PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME!” (Psalm 97:12 NLT)
